Kinda makes you wonder what his food safety deregulations have done.

Wasn't there a recall on bagged salads last week? Reason 1,417 on why I'm grateful I have a garden.

You mean like this one, from 2019/2020? I'm waiting for trichinosis to show up in headlines. That's why the lines were slowed in the 1st place and why we were fed decades of pork ads to try to rehab its image.

One of the biggest things that has always bothered me about food safety is that recalls are largely voluntary. Companies can literally do a cost-benefit analysis and decide that settling potential lawsuits is cheaper than doing a recall and keep on doing what they're doing.

Regulatory agencies have a huge number of hurdles to go over to actually force a recall, and by then the harm is already done. It's not just food either, pretty much all consumer products. And they don't go to any effort to notify customers, they rely entirely on the media to carry the story.

I'm a foodie, live with another blogger who knows ingredients and a kid who is a registered dietician. It's not good.

In January of 2017, Trump directed his agencies to repeal 2 rules for every new 1 they introduced.

We'd need to know what they are, but news networks don't see fit to report public policy, which is always dry & sometimes complicated. Instead, they report on politics, which is all drama & anyone can have a position on it no matter his/her ignorance on the topic.

One can find some of them in Brookings' database, & a quick perusing suggests that there will surely be adverse outcomes & that it could be incredibly hard to prove a cause-&-effect linkage between those deregulations & specific outcomes, especially those that are isolated or sparse.

Afghanistan springs to mind as another Trump IED. Sadly, I think there are many more yet to explode.
