I cannot overemphasize the chaos and hilarity that will ensue IF Trump is convicted. Republicans have put all of their eggs in one unstable basket without devising a fallback strategy. This will lead to a chaotic Republican National Convention, resulting in a massive electoral defeat in November.

I hate to say it, but as much as I hope you're right, I think they'll mostly just fall in lock-step behind him, keep him as the nominee, and double down on plans to steal the election.

I've long given up hope that any decisive number of Republicans will ever really break with Trump.

Given everything Trump has already gotten away with, I'll wait to hear the jury's verdict before I jump for joy that he's finally been held accountable.

Not to mention the trump inspired (& probably demanded ) violence, which will force many GOP pols to lionize still more rioters & thugs, while Simultaneously manufacturing a jump in crime, blaming it on Christian refugees...

Ever since Reagan left office, the GOP has been painting themselves into a corner. Trump did not mislead the GOP; he didn't lead it at all. The GOP inadvertently created a low-budget mindless Frankenstein monster, whose stumbling around brought the decrepit structure crashing down.

They'll keep Trump on the ballot. Die-Hards will still vote for him as they believe a Trump win will clear him of all justice wrong doing. Then he will bring clear blue skies as they view through rose colored glasses.😇😆

Trump keeps threatening an uprising when he's indicted ... on trial ... convicted ... and so on ... and nothing much ever happens.

I don't think we're faced with worse than we're already putting up with.

When... WHEN Trump is convicted. That's not just wishful thinking. Mark my words. There will be hell to pay.

And you're right. The Republican party in it's entirety will implode.

If he's convicted he'll be out on bail pending his appeal. It will be no different than what it's like for him now. It will really depend if those few GOP that said they won't vote for him if he's convicted will actually vote Biden, or not vote at all. I see them instead sticking to party vote.

GOP are so committed that they even vote for dead people. Remember Dennis Hof of Nevada. He died before the election and people still voted for him.

I disagree, but hope I’m wrong. The Republicans have always strategized years in advance and I believe they have a fall back plan for a presidential nominee. (not that I have a clue as to whom that would be)

The time for such a fallback was well before now. Why else push the likes of DeSantis and Haley? If either weren't such political duds, this would be a whole different conversation.

They have no one else...at all.

From what I've read about it so far, the RNC currently doesn't have any rules, policies or procedures for said event. The only thing I could imagine happening is Haley reinstating her campaign in a knee-jerk, reactionary attempt to get an [R] back on the ballot.

It's gonna be a mess!

IF Trump is not convicted it will embolden Republicans to continue with the instability that gives them power...May the jury perform their duty according to the law.

I believe there is a fallback strategy if convicted:

1. Appeal, appeal, appeal

1. He's already pre-appealed now. How much can he appeal later after the trial?
2. Nikki and DeSantis will be scratching each other's eyes out to get that nomination.
