Does anyone know of a good pet-safe weed killer I can use before I plant grass seed?

Yes! Corn gluten meal. Pets can even eat it, it's fine. We used to use it, works great! BUT: it's very time sensitive. It has to be used pre-emergent. I can't remember if it was before the forsythia comes out, or during. It doesn't work after the weeds are already out.

Something to consider: it's pretty smelly as it decomposes

A shovel. Digging them out from the root is the best, it also gets the ground ready for the seeds. I know, not what you wanted to read.

Oh dear. I don't have a permit to carry a shovel I'm afraid.

4-6 months of a black silage to smother, or 2-4 weeks of a clear plastic tarp to solarize, if you live somewhere that the sun is strong this time of year. Solarizing only works mid-summer in the northeast.

Thanks. I was hoping for something I could spray and throw some seeds down a few days later.
