thread 1/1
Arizona just became the 8th state to pass legislation nicknamed “Grandpa in the Garden Law” It allows for an alternative burial option in lieu of traditional burial or cremation. The process is called human composting or natural organic reduction. Details in article attached. What are your thoughts?

I'm in favor of this, with some caveats... medical devices (artificial hips, implants, etc) would obviously need to be removed. And people who died while on chemo or radiation treatments probably shouldn't be eligible unless the resulting soil can be sure to be free of those chemicals.

Removing medical devices would be no different than what is done prior to cremation. They tend to explode! I agree with the consideration of not doing it for people who had any type of radioactive treatment prior to death or died of a contagious disease.

Uh what it my family wants to move? Do we have to disclose that Mommy is in the soil?

Unless somebody asks why your grass is so green I wouldn’t mention it. There will literally be no body because it would actually been turned into fertile soil.

I don't think I want to go this route. I could change my mind though.

I want to to it but I found it’s not legal in my state.

I love it. I hope Illinois makes it legal here soon.

I absolutely love this for so many reasons:
1.) Funerary services are predatory
2.) Embalming chemicals are toxic
3.) Cemeteries take up so much space and burial plots are way overpriced
4.) Bodies can nourish the earth instead of being filled with toxic chemicals and crammed into an expensive box.

I agree on all the points you made. I’m going to look more into it as an option for me.

Agreed.

Although I happen to like wandering around cemeteries, I want to be a tree. Imagine the forests we'd make!

Green burials are becoming more popular all the time. I'm planning on being aquamated as it's more eco-friendly than cremation.

I haven’t heard of aquamated. Definitely going to try to get more information on it.
