When I lived in Richmond, Virginia, we had an opossum living in our backyard. We never had problems with rodents, ticks, etc in our backyard because he ate everything. Nurture your possum. It will take care of so many pests for you. :)

I have issues with these creatures, but I will leave them be... even though I run from them now, but still! I'll leave them alone!

I've only ever seen opossums in their natural state as roadkill

They also express the existential angst of living in these times.

Glad to hear they're immune to rabies! One ran up to me outside Logan Airport of all places and scared the absolute living crap out of me!

And they love cat food. I buy cheap cat food in 40 pound bags for them.

I have one that comes into my yard periodically. The dog was barking at something one night. I went out and there it was just laying back smiling at me. I'm not worried about any of those things. I was upset because she kept digging holes in my raised herb bed.

After I feed my feral cats on the back porch I let the feral possum clean the bowl right before I feed the feral raccoon who prefers dog food to cat food. Feral me broke. 🙃
