A Mississippi woman's life has been transformed by a treatment for sickle cell disease with the gene-editing technique CRISPR. All her symptoms from a disease once thought incurable have disappeared.

So wonderful to hear this. I had a student with Sickle Cell many years ago. I hope this treatment is possible for him.

This is a FANTASTIC article. I have a friend who suffers from sickle cell I pray the FDA hurries up and approves this. Side note: My #manga #Noelle deals with medical mysteries. Here's hoping science and humanity wins over corporate greed.

This sounds like a major medical breakthrough. How many more people can this help?

With CRISPR showing a near 100% cure rate there's no telling what this technology can address!

Freakonomics MD, hosted by Dr. Bapu Jena, had an episode about this. Episode 73 (2/16/2023) talked about how we might pay for expensive cures:

The previous episode (2/9) talked about curing rare diseases:

That's my "don't miss" podca

My ex husband had sickle cell. It's horrible disease. I'm happy for her and that they've hopefully found a cure.

I love that it has helped her but the whole notion of CRISPR makes me nervous AF.
