I was talking with friends about the age-old question of whether you can make change on the inside, or the outside of an institution.

What say y’all? How have you been able to make impactful change despite the bureaucracy within a system and/or influence it from the outside?

I tried, spent a lot of time and energy into it, but if you are about real change, you will drain yourself and in the end, you either leave or will be forced to leave and they will find a replacement who 'looks' like u but who won't rock the boat. i now focus on doing things outside of institutions

i see a lot of ppl that were praising me for calling out institutions, now aligning themselves with the same institutions, which was and still sort of is frustrating & painful (especially when it is fellow Black queer folks), but i am on a path of letting it go and focusing on what i'm doing.

and there are two quotes that come to mind, from Audre Lorde & Sara Ahmed

“When you expose a problem you pose a problem. It might then be assumed that the problem would go away if you would just stop talking about or if you went away.” #SaraAhmed
