Imagine writing a law in 2023, with only 27 words, to regulate weapons built in 2255, despite obviously having 0 knowledge of tech 232 years in the future.

That's how absurd it sounds when people today claim a 1791 Amendment encompasses all weapons in 2023 and cannot be questioned in any capacity

The 2nd Amendment has to do with a well regulated Militia under the direct control of Congress. The very wording of the 2nd Amendment has absolutely NOTHING to do with private citizens owning guns. There's a whole section in the Article section of the Constitution defining what the Militia is.

It *doesn't* encompass *all* weapons. That's why we can't just buy fully functional tanks or fighter jets. It's why we can't have howitzers or torpedos.

Limitations on the 2A are why we can't have fully automatic weapons. These are good things, btw.

What are the limits on the 2A so that we cannot have howitzers and fully automatic weapons? If there are established limits where does the limitation authority end? Who says nay to howitzers but yea to m-15s with 1000 bullet magazines?

Even Heller doesn't grant an unlimited license to own *any* weapon one can think of.

We're not allowed to have fully functional tanks, fighter jets, or even automatic weapons, for example.

A non-lawyer reading of Heller tells me the only sort of unfettered access to firearms it provides (more)

Given the younger generations are more and more progressive and less religious, the GOP’s elective success depends on children -outside of their control - not becoming voters.

I didn’t have active shooter drills in school, just fire and atom bomb drills, and we had the Second Amendment then.
My kids never needed active shooter drills, and we had the Second Amendment then.
If previous generations had no problem with gun laws, why does this one?

It's irrelevant. Please stop playing their game by engaging in the framing that *they* chose, wittingly--in order to get us to take the bait. They succeeded. It's a choice still. Let's stop. The POTUS has a Assault Weapons Ban on the table. Other federal bills are being proposed. Apply pressure.

I couldn't agree more. The right was also clearly about established militias in order to fend off repressive governments.

The meaning has been distorted by right wing courts over the years to give it broader and broader scope that was never intended.

We've ended up in a dark and ugly place.

The whole thing needs a rewrite but certainly, the 2nd should be first. Why is that so hard? The stupid courts in the pocket of the NRA have enabled this.
