A mass shooter murders six people. I go on MSNBC and refer to God with the "Her" pronoun while talking about the religious context of this horrific incident.

Guess which one this editor at Fox News wants to discuss?

Unsurprisingly, he did not have a good response to my answer.

Not your problem but I abhor that we all still speak as it the Torah or the Bible is THE word of God. So many belief systems left out here .
I would answer him that Hekate disagrees.
Or Artemis .
For starters.
But yes you were brilliant; thanks for taking him on

Maybe ask him how he's planning to be a bride of Christ.

I'm not a biblical scholar, nor a Christian, but I am wondering how much of god's gender was lost in translation from Aramaic to Hebrew to Greek to Latin to English, when they finally bothered to actually write the oral traditions down.

Just to amplify what a few other people have noted: In the old testament, in the original Aramaic and Hebrew, G-d is absolutely non-binary. Shabbat, from the Kabbalistic perspective, is the marriage ceremony between the female and male aspects of G-d.

I don't have scientific proof but I do have a theological take: "Ruach" is Hebrew for breath or spirit and is feminine. When G-d's spirit is speaking or moving the soul, it is " she". We are stuck in a binary that ancient peoples were not.
Peace of the Lord be with you.

Love your response. Wish everyone could read what Rabbi Danya Rutenberg has written about Jewish theology history re gender. It's been way more complicated than I was taught for millennia.
