I’ve been monitoring the nonsense going on at Twitter. I have no idea what Elon’s end game is. However, his actions increasingly point to disinformation and devaluing liberal/progressive news gathering. And he lies so effortlessly.

But why? What does he gain?

He and his "friends" and foreign masters would like to bring the US to it's knees. He's a pro-Putin, nazi loving, trolled owned by the Saudis and Chinese. And it's worked, he has destroyed the bird / dog thing in what, 6 months?

He dislikes being told "no, you shouldn't do that, it's illegal/immoral/counterproductive." So he'll set out to do it just because he *can.*
Also, he believes in buying publicity. Those who gave him the money don't believe in democracy or free press.

Elon has simply lost his marbles. He knew he made a massive blunder in offering $44 billion for twitter, tried to get out of the contract, but couldn't. He's been in panic mode ever since and is behaving irrationally.

Yes, he’s desperately attempting to get Twitter to generate revenue, but misunderstood where the value in the platform lay and his assumptions proved incorrect. Seems to be panic mode now

He's a proponent of a "multi -polar" world, de-throning the dollar as the dominant global currency, BRICS, crypto $, & the theory of Longtermism (see below). He also now believes in some RW conspiracy theories. W/his purchase of Twtr, he has big power in the information space to advance these goals.

Hard to put into a spout, but consider his background and his backers: He believes in a post-American world. That's one wherein USD is devalued, where representative democracy is not the law of the land, and where natural resources are controlled by his 'peers'.

Can he just be an idiot? He’s so red pilled that he actually believed there’s a cabal of deep state liberal elites controlling the free speech of his deplorable buddies. Whether or not he still believes it, he’s running Twitter as though it were true. It’s part of the reason he flailing around badly

He is a sociopath who has to blame others for everything, and so the fact that his trans child hates him must be bc “woke culture,” not bc he’s a trash parent. He’d rather go full Nazi and waste all his money than admit he is incapable of loving his children.

His #1 goal was to shut down the truth, turn Twitter into a propaganda cesspool, provide loads of hate and disinformation to brainwash weak people for the 2024 election. All in hopes of helping get the orange turd back in the White House. Got his marching orders from Putin and other billionaires.

It is easy to see his endgame. He wants to make Twitter the only publishing platform.
1) remove verifications from known news organizations
2) increase character length
3) "force" people to publish on Twitter where only HE is the arbiter of "truth"

Oh, friend...as if Elon ever had an endgame. All his actions to date tell me he's working from two priorities: 1) do whatever makes him feel good because his personal life is miserable and 2) vainly finding ANYTHING to pay back the 44 billion. It makes him react rather than think.

Elon gets publicity and attention, two things a rich megalomaniac narcissist love. He also causes disruption in our society which makes it harder to dismantle people like him. We become more divided due to misinformation, and it's so easy to conquer the people divided.

he has kneecapped a key facility for collective sensemaking in the modern media environment, which aligns far too well with some unsavory agendas for our society that are backed by very deep pockets. he’s not doing it for the business revenue.

I see him as torn. He wants to earn that money he paid back but he wants to do it in a way that vindicates all his awful behavior and personal beliefs. And every time the latter fails to happen, he doubles down.

A prominent place at the table when Theocratic Fascism takes over.

A controlling interest in enacting racist policies to echo the man-baby's upbringing in Apartheid SA.

A steady flow of millions of $ by exploiting an undeserved reputation for tech know-how, from clueless ancient fascists.

I think he genuinely believes conservatives are victims and their speech is being censored hence free speech absolutism. While not caring people are being hurt on his platform.

Mixed with a very fragile ego censoring speech that criticises him.

Influence. This is a game of influence. And Elon did not pay a dime. I'd bet his Saudi backers (who also value influence as much as currency) simply raided their bedside drawers for pocket lint cash. It is peanuts to them, but the reward is getting a social media powerhouse.

If he was able to successfully help dismantle the liberal framework & help Repubs gain power would it make his ability to do business in any manner he chose much easier? He could possibly make endless amounts of money w/ little to no taxation. He could also let his personal prejudices fly free.

Certainly in the vector of possibilities. But that’s entirely dependent on Twitter still being influential. There’s a tipping point we’re approaching where certain constituencies of Twitter (including folks here) are departing the platform. It’s not looking good for an influence campaign.
