Hated the term “battered woman” , made me feel like I should come with an order of fries. I always preferred to explain that my ex husband is violent and that’s why I left and cut all ties.

How we talk about these things - our language *matters*.

I think the majority of men who impregnate teenagers are older. Teenaged girls have it rough--lots of data on it--& when someone seems to be kind or protective, they then trust them. A lot of older men have a preference for submissive & very young women or girls. It's an under-reported phenomenon.

I think I over-stated that. It may be about 30%, but they were a lot older. Subliminal message of the passive voice used is that women are responsible for avoiding pregnancy on their own. Many men see it as the woman's or girl's responsibility. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.g...

My daughter manages an upscale restaurant. It took her years of hard work to get where she is. She told me that sexual harassment & assault are part of the business. When I asked her if it had ever happened to her, she told me casually, "Yes Dad," it happens to every female. This is America?

This is true, but, not every woman who has been raped was raped by a unique man. So, unless you managed to get all the men who did it to admit it, how would you frame it any other way?

You're thinking the use of this language supports something merely transactional.

It doesn't.

The consistent use of language like this, or its alternative, supports something systemic, one way or the other.

I prefer the one way.

Men raped nnnn women last year. By not making it an equation it implies that the number is not equal.

Excellent post to change the way people think. Victims do not exist in a vacuum - there are predators and perpetrators for each
