I'm shopping for a new desktop and I just realized that I'm at a point in life where the Alienware *serious gamer* FromSpace case is... a detraction.
I'm a grown ass man. Having a PC that lights up looks like I'm trying too hard. Like I just got divorced and need a convertible to mask the Viagra.

The fan in my upgrade has a pretty cycling RGB light, but other than that I even pulled the pins for the power and HDD led lights because they annoy me :D

I recommend either a MacPro or MacStudio. They are pricey but they'll support your productivity apps and perform very well with gaming...

How do you feel about laptops? I got my daughter a Lenovo Legion 5 (from Costco because I'm cheap). She plays SIMS with a few thousand expansion packs (only slightly exaggerated). Runs butter smooth. Add external monitor, keyboard and mouse for a "desktop".

I had a similar realization in a shirt-ward direction: I was at the mall with my daughter at Newbury Comics & was looking at comic & videogame & music shirts & thought: I really should just get a solid color shirt, I don't need to tell the world I love the Ramones all the time.

I use a Razr keyboard that is backlit with a rainbow of colors as well as a gaming chair in my office in in a downtown highrise. I'm 50 and the lights bring whimsy to my otherwise staid, 1980's LA Law-type office. Our offices need more whimsy!

Had a similar situation when my old MBP bit the dust. Had a short convo with my adult son, ended up getting a ChromeBook with no regrets. Suggestion is start with what you use it for, then see what does the job. Re. building your own, I'm guessing 'no' (or you would have done it already). 🤞

I’ve had luck the last few years with HP OMENs from BestBuy. Yes, I know I’m overpaying a tad, but they work great out of the box with surprisingly little bloatware.

I did a prebuilt that had the NZXT H7 Flow case - very solid case for beefy innards and good airflow, but doesn't light up with bells and googly eyes or anything

Got one from CyberPower a while back. Regular case and works great.

The problem, of course, is that the Alienware is a *really good* PC. I could buy one and be able to play all the top-of-the-line games, until 2030, with no real problems.
