Suburban Sprawl costs 38% more public money upfront & 10% more ongoing public cost than compact infill growth, with only 1/10th the created tax revenue — report.

#Sprawl is REALLY expensive for EVERYONE.

I live in Manhattan in a complex of almost 1000 units that takes up a single city block. 209,088 square feet. If you add the facing roadbed, it's 261,888 sq ft.

The same number of units in a suburban subdivision of 50x100 lots would take up 5,000,000 sq ft. With roadbed, 7,500,000.

Obviously, those suburbs cost FAR more to maintain. And, unlike the city, there is little commercial and industrial property to help share the costs.

And yet, suburbanites are the ones who are always complaining about how high taxes are.
