Spry Lorax

This is one of my favorite quotes, so I share it often. There are simply some things we cannot "agree to disagree" on, and Civil Rights & Human Rights are two of those things.

Baldwin's 1960s perspective was necessarily one of self-defense.
A 21st Century ethical perspective might be:
"We can disagree and still love each other unless your disagreement is rooted in the oppression of others and the denial of their humanity and their right to exist."
We can't debate hate.

If our disagreement is “rooted in my oppression, denial of my humanity and right to exist”, then I have every right possible to do whatever is necessary to do away with my oppression, uplift my humanity and continue to exist against all odds. And no, we cannot be friends - not even acquaintances!
