Mass shootings are one symptom of a bigger problem; we do not (and if you're a POC, never have) live in a democracy. Whether it's gun control, abortion, or taxing corporations and billionaires, if the wealthy "elite" don't want it, it's not going to happen, no matter how much the public supports it.

And if you live in a red state, the problem is even worse. Extreme gerrymandering means the GOP not only ignores what the people want, but they aggressively enact anti-democratic measures when the people try to use one of the few tools left at their disposal, like lawsuits or referenda.

For example, Ohio simply ignored a judicial ruling to make their gerrymandered map more fair. Other GOP-led states, when citizens have passed laws or constitutional amendments via referenda, have responded by making it harder to get a referendum on the ballot, or making the passing threshold higher.
