The season Spec Sanders had in 1947 for the NY Yankees of the All-America Conference -- the league that gave us the #Browns & #49ers -- has never been properly appreciated: 1,432 yards rushing, 1,442 passing as a single-wing tailback in a 14-game schedule. Check it out:

Note the 6 straight games with 140+ rushing yards. The #nfl record is 4 (Otis Armstrong, 1974; Earl Campbell, 1980). Note, too, 5 of the Yankees' 1st 6 games were on the road because the baseball Yankees were still using Yankee Stadium.

Also: Sanders averaged a passing TD (18) & a rushing TD (14) per game. No #nfl player has ever done that. Just a remarkable season. And there was more to it -- such as 3 interceptions on defense. Here are all the numbers: https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/S/SandSp00/gamelog/1947/

Here's Spec scoring a TD vs. the Chicago Rockets that year. That's Elroy "Crazylegs" Hirsch, playing both ways, trying to stop him. Night game = white football.

Last Spec Sanders tweet: When the All-America Conference partially merged with the #nfl in 1950, Sanders, now 32, played 1 final season solely as a DB. He led the league with a record 13 INTs. Only HOFer Night Train Lane (14, 1952) has ever had more. Quite a player. The details:
