Aside from the fact that this is a nice story, with a heartwarming outcome, why does the media feel the need to frame stories like this?

He's a human being helping other human beings who were in dire need of help. Does labeling the rescuer as "homeless" change the story in any meaningful way?

Yes, it does. A lot of people look down on or past the homeless and don't see them as being people. His act of bravery shows his humanity. How many people would stop and help him if he was in crisis?

Interesting perspective, thanks.

I was looking at it from the perspective that the website and/or author of the article decided to tell the world that he is homeless, likely without even asking him whether he's ok with it.
