I've lifted this up before & I'm going to keep boosting it. If you live in San Francisco & know someone having a mental health crisis or see someone on the street in crisis, there's an alternative to calling trigger-happy cops. Call 911 & specifically ask for the Street Crisis Response Team (contd)

otherwise the cops will be routed to the situation. There is a better alternative than risking a deadly interaction. Trained behavioral health clinicians, peer counselors & paramedics are the members of the teams and the service is citywide. Street Crisis Response Teams are saving lives in SF❤

Thanks for posting this! Several cities in #California have mental health crisis response teams that accompany police on mental health crisis calls —it’s a great idea to ask directly, just in case ❤️‍🩹

I mentioned that in the top of the thread. Callers MUST specify they want the team to be sent otherwise the cops will be automatically routed to the situation. These teams are saving lives. I'm so glad to hear other cities/states are embracing them. It's such a monumental shift. It's about damn time

It's been such a hopeful improvement. They've been taking a serious bite out of the numbers of calls that used to get routed to the cops. The success rate has been amazing. There really is a better way than involving overreacting cops. I hope more cities & states adopt teams like this.

Excellent suggestion! There is also the Mobile Crisis Team at 415/970-4000.

Definitely👍🏾👍🏾❤The Crisis Response Team has a wider reach and a more staff than Mobile Crisis, but every bit of help matters in keeping people safe in SF.
