#ThreadChallenge

@RetiredLibrarian has inspired me to try to create a thread. I similarly am a lifetime painter. I first remember drawing at about 7 or 8 years old. Mother sat us down with the ends of wallpaper rolls to draw on the reverse side for amusement. It's a family thing...

...in Dad's world you either had a skill or you were a labourer which meant uncertain work, low pay and a lifetime of injuries. He remembered labourers lining up each day at factories & shipyards or the docks with many being turned away...

I tried several jobs, trainee marine engineer, clerk, I even tried to get into the music industry, this was 1970 in London...I loved on my own and starved for about two years trying to stand on my own feet, but could not get ahead & had few chances...

Mum rescued me and asked me toi come home. I ate my pride and moved back to my parents, it was there I was offered a job organising trade exhibitions in Europe...my career in business had started. I was lucky to be given some advice form a trusted friend...

He sjowed me how to think about a career and start applying for roles that would start me on my path. Marketing was attractive to me...I gained a role in market research and built a career form there in marketing and advertising. I worked for some of the best and most well known ad agencies...

I tried many times to give it up as "useless" I could not, by 2006, I was living in Australia, and decided to do something about it and started to attend art school part time in Sydney(I immigrated in 1981) at an atelier which gave traditional training...

...my first day at school was like coming home, I nearly wept, the smell of linseed, the large studio, easels students, models...it was overwhelming for me. it was than I knew something deep inside me was being recognised, honoured even...so my training began...with drawing, then tonal painting...
