Lynching wasn't only a southern horror. Many happened in northern states, as well. The white nationalist GOP is hellbent on refurbishing history to make fragile, aggrieved white people comfortable. Never. Stop. Learning. The. Truth. This is how we got here. This history belongs to ALL of us.

It didn’t fall all the way to lynchings, but I grew up 30 miles north of the Mason-Dixon, and there were still cross-burnings in the late 1960’s.

I grew up in Chicago in the 70's. Many Black families who dared to move to the Illinois suburbs were the victims of cross burnings and firebombings that were happening regularly all throughout the decade. The racist hate ran/still runs so deep.
