The interpretation of her effect after the results came in is biased. So if candidate A won, we’d say that Stein took votes away from B. If B won we’d say Stein took votes away from A. But before the results come in, you cannot logically describe an effect. Therein lies the rub.

Please explain, using fundamental logic, how ‘a priori’ (before final election counts come in) a third party vote favors one candidate over the other. Which candidate, A or B does a C vote favor?

“Harm reduction” is what is done in a broken democratic system. The best approach is allowing voters to score all leading candidates. But we don’t have that yet. I get it, crisis requires desperate action, but targeting those who don’t fall in line is stupid misdirected anger IMO.

Maybe you keep having to say it because it’s fictitious gaslighting. Gaslighting is only effective if you keep repeating it. Your notion that a non-vote happens to be a vote for the person you don’t like makes zero sense. It’s not a good argument. Period.

At the end of the day I am a pragmatist, a consistent voter, who does the best she can even with a broken system. However I do not participate in beating up on 3rd party voters b/c vote-shaming is just plain stupid ineffective chest-thumping.

Ironically, maybe, a lot of “privilege” in this election system goes to people who actually have a favorite candidate they can honestly vote for, and don’t have to pick a “lesser of two evils” under extreme duress to avoid being called all kinds of “asshole” and “selfish” by other voters.

This is only true because of a stupid “vote for your favorite” election system.

So, we have ballots that can only be completed honestly by people who love candidate A or love candidate B, then blame people who don’t fit? Our election system needs to do better. To-read: Majority Judgment: Measuring, Ranking, and Electing (Mit Press) https://a.co/d/60QthXi
