I would highly recommend that you join the Spoutible banned book discussion if you haven't read this book. One of the book's themes is the psychological impact colorism has on Black people The desire to change one's eye color as a symbol of the resulting pathology is examined in this classic.

This book is remarkable.

I'd list it as highly recommended reading for older teens and young adults because of the depth of the story. Rather ban it, have reading level ratings that would help readers select their books.
