Female founders fare better than before, with all-female founders getting 4% of the funding (believe it or not, that's "better") and businesses with at least one female founder getting 31%. That said, throw out Loam, and the numbers don't look as good (throw out Hnry and Rumin8 and it gets worse!).

That said, it is nice to see #ClimateTech and #HealthTech , two of my favourite sectors, getting a good share of deals, even if not a commensurate share of deal dollars. We'll need more dollars to flow this direction to see real systemic change. Perhaps especially in capital-intensive climate tech.

Comparisons to Q1 21 (hotting up) and 22 (truly boiling) aren't particularly useful, but the fact that we are a bit behind Q1 2020 is interesting. Even disappointing.

With fewer deals and (broadly speaking) smaller deal sizes, the data maps against what we're hearing - it's tough and it's tight.

Presumably, this means spending of $14 billion or so and revenue of $0 or so.

I can't even imagine the AMAZING businesses that would flow out of the Australian start-up ecosystem with even a quarter of that investment.
