I made an account here back in February, but still mostly read Twitter. Lately, though, my Twitter feed has been infested with MAGAts, so I'm reading here again.

If you don't like MAGAt infestations, please feel free to follow. I don't post much, but I follow back and I want to read your posts.

That would be much better than a fruitcake. Even a tasty fruitcake from the Collin Street Bakery, which makes the very finest fruitcakes.

Social Security desperately needs reform. You may call it "cutting SS," but stretching out the retirement age a year or two and increasing contributions are a must. These can be done without cutting benefits for current retirees.

Sometimes I do indeed nap in the morning, but that kind of messes up my usual afternoon nap. (I'm retired, so I can nap whenever I want.)

Any sleeping done after coffee qualifies as a nap.

I'm an expert on this, because I'm taking some meds that leave me sleepy in the morning.

They also built some homes near where I lived in Orange, CA. Interesting homes, and very desirable these days.

From what I've seen, most folks just follow back without too much worry. We're still assembling the Spoutible community.

Our little old Lutheran church could collect welfare if it was a person. We generally have a deficit that members generously make up at the end of the year. Generally.

I think they'll settle for a billion dollars or so. The testimony in an open court would be devastating to them. Imagine, for example, hearing in a courtroom that Tucker Carlson absolutely hates Trump.

One simple change that would alleviate much of the problem would be to permit student loan debt to be discharged in bankruptcy like any other debt.

Then lenders would become much more careful about who they loaned money to, and schools would no longer be able to raise costs so easily.

BTW, simply forgiving $10K of debt is not a long term solution to the problem. The system we have now allow schools to raise costs quickly, then try to attract students by building the fanciest facilities to justify their high costs.

The difference is that the 2008 bailout was a law passed by both houses of congress and signed into law by the president.

Much as I'd like to see some student loan relief, my opinion is that the president doesn't have the authority to order this relief without congress being on board.

My political leanings are moderate to progressive. Still, I think the student loan forgiveness program is an improper use of executive authority. The premise that it's an emergency power due to the Covid epidemic seems weak to me. Maybe there's a chance of a legislative solution.

Both sides are using this issue to curry favor with their bases rather than doing what's needed to fix the problem.

BTW, it's the same with immigration. Both sides need to come to the table and fix the problem.

Social Security really does need reform, though. It's paying out more than it takes in. We need to raise the tax rate or raise the retirement age, or both.

When they raise the retirement age, they typically don't do so for folks who are near retirement.
