Today was supposed to be a fun day. Play icivics game Win the Whitehouse. Great reinforcer for the Electoral College. Prizes for winners.

Now, when I teach, I have a big, red clock/countdown timer set for 15 min.
I cajole and tease kids to put their phones away. Some refuse. Some do it.
After 15, I give them 4 min of uninterrupted phone time. No one ever talks. Just silent scrolling.
Then I reset the timer and we restart.
