Every so often I have to marathon the series Halt and Catch Fire, to remember what it was like to be immersed in that world, especially as a female techie. The series pretty much says it all. So exciting one day, so devastating the next. Things happened so fast. Winning and losing over and over.

My daughter just got asked for her ID to verify she is over 21. She's 42. She rolled her eyes at me, because I know what it's like. I got carded until I was 45. Friends said I'm supposed to be happy about that, but it really did get annoying. I like being my age. I don't worship youth.

When you told yourself to just check out a Netflix series for a minute, just a taste, one episode, and here you are four days later and haven't even watched the last season yet and your ass hurts from sitting but don't care, don't care because you just have to know how it's all gonna turn out NOW.

thread 4 Threaded Spouts
I witnessed a UFO in 1991 near Mount St. Helens. There was no mistaking that it was a huge tangible triangle hovering nearby, deliberately tilting as I gaped, terrified. PTSD followed, for life. I was a no-nonsense investigative journalist and this was an impossible thing. My reality, shattered. /1

I bet you didn't know that wind chimes could replace therapy. Look how happy they are. That could be you, wind chime hater.

I'm actually sad about Twitter. I went there after I 'd had it with Facebook eating itself alive. I went to Facebook after IRC got too laggy. I switched to IRC because Usenet got too snarky. More problems: CompuServe, The WELL, ARPANET. I'm sensing a pattern here. Maybe I need to get out more.

When I was a kid, my mom took me to Vasquez Rocks Park for a picnic. But we couldn't get into the picnic area. A TV show was being filmed. Star Trek. The 1st season. The crew like my mom (beauty queen) so they invited us on the set. We shared our picnic with D. Kelly and L. Nimoy between takes.

I've been online since 1979. A lot changed over the decades, but people typing things at each other that they would never say face to face - same as it ever was. I learned that most tech problems weren't about machines, but the people using them. So I learned sociology, then taught it for 20 years.

Ida Mae Ferrin is my great grandmother. She ran off to Hollywood as a teen and became a costume designer to the stars. Her religious U.S. Midwest family disowned her because, well, Hollywood. I'm estranged from my birth family so I identify with her most, even though we never met. So that's why.
