Reading Manning's Modern C. This was the second programming language I learned before heading to college, but haven't touched it in almost 20 years. It doesn't look like a lot has changed since ANSI C 89 so far.

My StarFiveTech #VisionFive2 arrived and it's booting into Debian Linux. Now to install the NVME and get into some experimentation with #RiscV hardware.

After some research on #RiscV I am going to pickup a developer board to start seeing what all the hype is about.

Trying a new OCR training plan from 80/20 Endurance starting tomorrow. Four days of running and three days in the gym for strength training. Hopefully, my running power zones are close. I will probably supplement some zone 1 and 2 cardIo on the gravel bike. 12 weeks until my #SpartanRace Beast.

Finished installing #FedoraWorkstation 38 Beta on the AMD Ryzen machine with Nvidia GPU that always gives me grief. So far so good with the first run of a BWA-MEM2 and samtools workflow.

Really didn't feel like getting the morning run in today, but got a very easy 5K in on the treadmill. The spring thaw can't come soon enough to get back on the trails.

Interesting follow up on the M1 Pro performance for aligning FASTQ data from the other week. BWA MEM did the same alignment in 13 hours and 41 minutes. Minimap2 must be memory constrained here.

A suitable domain name for a new service project idea has been acquired. Time to start putting in the work to actualize it.

Apple M1 Pro takes about 48 hours to align a 30x WGS NovaSeq sample on GRCh38 with minimap2? Painfully unoptimized on ARM hopefully.

Upgrading your computer can be such a pain. Trying to figure out all the profile and system settings missing for aligning human-sized genomes, so the pipeline actually emits the final CRAM files instead of crashing.

Apple needs to fix that default of 256 open files to be something reasonable.

Looks like everything is starting to stabilize over here.

Today I'll be starting to dig into rewriting a #PlayFramework project with #Scala3 on #Zio or going a different route with #SwiftLang and #Vapor .
