Cottonwood Pass, Colorado

Taken from the summit trail to Cottonwood Pass, the picture shows a lake in a high mountain valley. Evergreen trees and sage are the predominant flora seen. The sky is filled with clouds that cast shadows on the valley floor. In the distance is a range of mountains that have lost their snow cap since it's mid-July.
All you could hear was the wind.

Our lot in Crested Butte wasn't #level when we bought it, so to enshrine the contours, my husband built a 3D model of the lot. His level is in the lower right corner of the picture. We affixed this model to the refrigerator in our garage. We are *definitely* nerds!

The beginnings of a contour model of a piece of land. Pieces of foam board, an exacto knife, a bottle of glue, a ruler, a level, and some clamps are scattered about on a fabric cutting board.

This obituary of much-loved Tessa (not my dog) was in the local #paper . I loved the prose so much that I took a picture of the obit so that I would always have a copy.

"We see you there Tessa."

How they loved her.

Bounding down the trail.
Playing in the river.

I grew up as an army brat, so I never had a "house I grew up in." This painting is of my mom's home in Galveston TX. It was in our family from 1887 until 2008. It survived the Great 1900 Storm.
When I was #young , we would come back to this house between tours of duty.

This single blossom of an American bistort is a #spray all on its own.
Even the stamens appear to be spraying.
The flower is about one inch tall by .5 inch wide.
Photo taken by me in a meadow at Paradise Pass, Crested Butte CO.
I'm very proud of this one!

In London's Tower Bridge Engine Room museum

These old wheels are part of the mechanism that used to raise and lower the Tower Bridge. Steam engines provided the power.

If you get a chance, go see it. Especially if you're an engineer or, in my case, an engineer's daughter.

A whole bunch of messy, multicolored fibers all twisted up and tied together for a purpose that escapes me.

This was at an outdoor site where men were rolling fiber ropes of all different colors onto spools. See the site in the thread.

Our gal Molly was 10 when this picture was taken.
We'd just moved to the mountains and she had found her favorite place...across the stream that didn't have a bridge!
She crossed the rainbow bridge in April of 2022. We miss her still.

Taken from Highway 50 over Monarch Pass in Colorado. The beetle kill has damaged at least 1/3 of the evergreens on the mountain. It's heartbreaking. 🖤 Pyramidal piles of wait wood to be burned. One pile has already been burned. Burning kills any remaining beetles.

On Monarch Pass CO. The forest service has cut down dead and dying evergreens that succombed to beetle-kill. There are pyramidal piles of dead wood, one of which has been burned to kill any remaining beetles. Monarch Mountain has suffered a tremendous amount of damage from the decimation of the forest by the beetles.

This little munchkin (my granddaughter) was one day old and 7 weeks pre-mature. Thank goodness for medical grade plastic. It kept her oxygenated and hydrated until she was strong enough to go home! She's 10 years old now and a wonder to behold. 💓

This little guy, Mecki, was one of my toys when I was a little girl living in Berlin where my army dad was stationed. Mecki had a wooden pipe that went through a loop in his belt, but it's long gone. He's at least 72 years old. I'm just a tiny bit older. 😊

A hedgehog doll named Mecki, made by the German company Steiff. He's wearing a striped shirt, brown vest, and greyish pants with a string belt. His head is cracked from age. His short wiry hair is a mess. There is a Mona Lisa smile on his cute little face. 😌
