Oh, what Diane Nash must be thinking and feeling tonight ...

The Nashville Student Movement to desegregate lunch counters was not so long ago, and a new generation, embodied by expelled TN Reps Jones and Pearson, is ready to lead.

#Faculty , #historians , #teachers , how do you avoid despair?

As I grade essays for my online course, it is indisputable that 30 of 40 students cheated.

My q is not how to prevent cheating.

The q is, what is the value of teaching/grading when cheating is the norm?

When Rep. Pat Schroeder joined the Armed Services Cmte in 1973, the chairman literally would not give her a seat: Rep. F. Edward Hébert of LA made her share an actual chair with Rep. Ron Dellums bc, he claimed, "women and Blacks were worth only half of one regular Member."

“If they don't give you a seat at the table, bring a folding chair.”

Shirley Chisholm was a giant.

I can't wait to dig in to this book by #Historian Anastasia Curwood, published by UNorthCarolina Press

Even in this age of polarization, I find myself deeply worried about the profound de-politicization of so many Americans. Today's evidence?

Today I #amteaching college students about the Vietnam war using Errol Morris' award-winning film, THE FOG OF WAR. 1/

The Ocoee Massacre of 1920 is a tragic part of this nation's violent history of racist voter suppression.

Klansmen and local white officials used it to send a message to aspiring Black voters, men and women, who turned out to vote in droves after the woman suffrage amendment was ratified in 192
