The most popular December birthstone here in the USA is blue topaz, which is an interesting example of nuclear science at work for a cosmetic purpose. My most recent video goes into detail:

Pic of our hand-powered x-ray machine at the National Nuclear Museum's "Adult STEM Night." Razor blade in a candy bar is a perennial favorite subject! Contact me if you're in the Albuquerque area and have an interest in nuclear science educational outreach.

A few personal photos (in no particular order) from the #Chernobyl plant over the years on this anniversary of the 1986 accident there.

Photos may be freely reused and I am happy to explain any of them in detail...just ask.

Today (4/26) is the anniversary of the #Chernobyl accident. This year, ChNPP released a reconstruction (from transcripts) of telephone conversations in the plant right before and after the explosion. Interesting bit of #nuclear history.

Random #nuclear history time! This 2002 video shows Georgian soldiers wrangling a man-killing Sr-90 heat source into a lead container near Enguri Dam. The neglected radioactive source killed a camper the previous year. Two more are still lost nearby!

For a little casual fun with radiation, come check out my new video showing what a strontium-90 eye applicator does to radiochromic film. I posted a still shot here on Spoutible a little while ago. Happy Saturday!

Testing the photo feature. Pic shows a sheet of radiochromic film being irradiated from the right by a strontium-90 eye applicator in the Nuclear Eng. Lab. This film self-develops, and after about 30 minutes you can see a blue splotch from the beta particles irradiating the film. #FunWithRadiation

Greetings, Spoutible! I'm testing the waters here in the wake of Twitter's nasty demise. To be fair, I never used Twitter, but there is no time like the present to look into new social media platforms. I hope to connect with fellow nuclear nerds, New Mexicans, and friends from all over!
