Read about the history of that summer; and the music that the rebellions inspired. How the powers that could have made a difference instead decided to double down on their suppression.
And ponder Stevie Wonder's question

Rott is our tendency to demand monuments for ourselves, but not for the 'Other.'
Mosques are destroyed by mobs or police. Ambedkar's statues and museums are vandalised by dominant caste miscreants. Forests are cleared for coal despite Adivasi protests.
But we don't protests any of it.
That is Rott.

When someone destroys a monument, we look to see if the monument belongs to us. If so, blame is allotted. If not, then it is not our concern. Or perhaps, we are the reason the monument was defaced in the first place.

But when Hindus massacre Muslims, Dalits, Adivasis (even Sikhs or Christians) by the dozens, scores, or hundreds, nobody is blamed. Certainly not the religion of the perpetrators.
The Hindu is made invisible. As is the caste of the perpetrator.
People killed. But nobody killed them.
That is Rott.

In India, if a Muslim, Dalit, or Adivasi, (Christians and Sikhs to an extent) or an underprivileged person commits an act of violence, we bring down the full institutional strength of law and order on them.
Shame them. Blame them. Call them terrorist.

We with more power.

What is this Rott you ask?
It is our tendency to assign blame or set conditions based on the power of the actor.
Less power-->More blame and more restrictions.
