SCIENCE: we need indoor air quality standards (behind a paywall, alas). It's healthier for everyone, including immune suppressed people like me https://www.science.org/do...

Our Local Grocery is having a big St. Patty day sale, with green everything and a lot of corned beef. Their store music today is.... the Proclaimers. Do I tell them? (Y/N) ☘️ #ShamrockFail

A beautiful swamp darner I found in a parking lot a while ago. In a couple of months, they'll start emerging.

It's cold and snowy today, but at least later in the year we will have TWO broods of periodical cicadas emerging! https://cicadasafari.org/

Today's Halloween costume review: "Sexy Bee Dude." This natty bee gentleman isn't a bee; with only 2 wings and incomplete venation, he's a syrphid fly for sure. As a mimic, he's likely just hoping to fool predators with his warning coloration and blue steel gaze.

“Sexy Moth” Halloween Costume review. The wing venation indicates a female Polyphemus moth. Antennae are plumose, which is correct for this species. There should be more fur on the abdomen, though 😀

Today's Entomological Halloween Costume review: "Sexy Caterpillar." That's all kinds of wrong, since caterpillars are not adults. It's not clear if this is a saddleback caterpillar or a spiny oak slug caterpillar, but either way it should be left alone. Points for including spiracles on the dress.

Things are still grim, so here's another review of an entomological Halloween costume: Sexy Monarch Butterfly. I think we can all agree yellow Ugg boots are not sensible footwear for intercontinental migration. Body:Wing surface ratio is also problematic.

It's time for my annual review of Insect & Arachnid Halloween costumes! Folks, this is not a good choice for beekeeping. Just because your crotch is sometimes called a "honey pot" doesn't mean you need to give bees easy access to it.

Posting this because of the very cool species name, but also it's a beetle that lost it's wings. What?! https://academic.oup.com/z...

Your periodic reminder that honeybees are an introduced, domestic animal in North America. Saying "save the bees" and keeping honeybees is like saying "save birds" and keeping chickens 🐝🐓 #PollinatorWeek
