If you have a working LTO4/5 external drive which you no longer need, please talk to me.
My existing TL4000 tape library is failing to POST. I'm looking to simplify the backups by moving to a single unit drive. My full backups fit onto one LTO4 tape.
Thanks.

Let's talk about the benefits of talking over a problem with someone else. In this case, Benedict Reuschling was playing the role of rubber ducky.

I had a device (#MySQL server) in LibreNMS which was not graphing. Comparing it to a device which was graphing, we found no differences.

Using #LibreNMS in a #FreeBSD #jail ? After jail restart, I must manually restart the librenms service because of 'Unable to launch a new process' errors. No idea why. Sounds like a race condition to me.

Using Unifi gear from Ubiquiti? Have you tried their augmented reality?

I ask because I'm running a self-hosted controller on #FreeBSD and I can't figure out how the app and controller talk to each other.

Thanks

I went down into the basement #homelab to hook up my two#FreeBSD servers to a 10G connection. I started by looking for unused fiber cards to install. I found I had already done that step.

My notes say '10G optics' - that's what I'm missing. The optics. Time to hunt those down.

In today's "I'm not working" accomplishments, I've fixed two Nginx LibreNMS graphing issues (it was permissions for nginx-status on the host) and resurrected TimeMachine backups on my air01.

I feel accomplished today. The snmp problems are solved. LibreNMS is doing more metrics for hosts (mainly memory usage). I also fixed up two confused WAPs (wrong IP address thanks to mangled DHCP configuration).

Plus, my desk has a new light and it’s spectacular.

How can I determine which jail a #zfs dataset is jailed into? I'm trying to backup some snapshots on #FreeBSD - my current block: how to determine the full path to a jailed snapshot if I know only the dataset name?

Details here: https://dan.langille.

Here's a Bacula job which runs backups of snapshots for the ZFS datasets you specify. I just ran it on #FreeBSD 14.0

Tonight, while not at home, my #pfSense box in the basement was updated from 23.01 to 23.05.1 - it takes about 45 minutes for the process to happen. During that time I always think: it should be done by now.

A very Canadian themed box:

Tonight, the last three jails were updated from FreeBSD 13.2 to #FreeBSD 14.0

Tonight, pkg01, my poudriere build server will not build for 13.2

I started upgrading a #Bacula 9 installation to Bacula 13.1 – there are mistakes in the upgrade script, which causes errors, but do not corrupt the update process. I’ll send in patches and create a blog post.

Glad to be using #zfs and had snapshots courtesy of #sanoid

That’s the TV mounted on the wall. It sat on the floor for 18 months after I moved in.

Now it’s the artwork’s turn to sit on the floor until I hang that.

Let’s run a new network cable. That wireless access point has been on top of the rack for 18 months. Let’s mount it to that center beam.

Please show me the #nginx redirect when the the URL ends with (.*)?branch=

It should redirect to that .* value.

Thanks

I messed up a thing and now we have all these extra URLs to redirect permanent. Just to keep the traffic down.

For #FreeBSD , there is a periodic script to regularly scrub your #zfs datasets. It seems to me that you must do the first one manually.

data04 has never been scrubbed. It was recently created. The script interprets this as "last scrubbing is 0 days ago"

This hurdle blocked a #FreeBSD host from getting onto fiber today:

Oct 22 20:50:02 r730-01 kernel: ix0: Unsupported SFP+ module type was detected.

I have a small collection of optical units I can choose from. I'll try again tomorrow.

I just spent 15 minutes debugging a script. Make changes, try again. No effect.

The script I have been modifying is not the same script I am running.

Where's my root beer?

If you need to partition a #FreeBSD drive just like another one:

gpart backup da0 | gpart restore da1

BOOM!

e.g. https://dan.langille.org/2020/12/12/replacing-a-failing-drive-in-a-zfs-zpool/
