A great weekend with San Antonio Philharmonic! Maestro Ludwig Carrasco led a phenomenal performance of my Nocturne, alongside a lovely performance of John Corigliano's Fern Hill and a brilliant Pictures at an Exhibition! I also really enjoyed talking to students at our open rehearsal.

Excited to be working with SAPhilharmonic on my Nocturne! The idea for this piece came from this Miro painting (also called "Nocturne"), which made me think of all the possible meanings of the term nocturne. Come check it out in San Antonio!

The American writer Stephen Crane was born OTD in 1871. He lived a fascinating, if short, life (he died at 28). Better known for fiction and journalism, he also wrote poetry in stark free verse (which he called "lines"). I set 7 of his poems in "A Thousand Tongues". Listen here:

6 years ago the Texas State Wind Symphony premiered Machine Become Music. What started as a short piece for brass quintet and piano (which did NOT work!) eventually became this almost half-hour long symphony for large wind ensemble. Check it out here: https://on.soundcloud.com/...
