Dianne Feinstein 1933-2023 Trailblazer and Icon. She was San Francisco's first woman mayor and among the first two women to serve as senators for the same state. At her death, she was the longest-serving woman in U.S. Senate history. May her legacy and memory be a blessing.

With 75% of the vote in, Lori Lightfoot has been defeated for re-election as Mayor of Chicago. The first Black woman to serve as mayor came in third place. Former Chicago Public Schools CEO Paul Vallas and Cook County Commissioner Brandon Johnson advance to the runoff.

The newest member of the Congressional Black Caucus is Jennifer McClellan, 50, of the Commonwealth of Virginia. She is the first Black woman elected to serve. I met her in 2005 on her first race. I always saw this for her. She will be a powerhouse. We salute her this #BlackHistoryMonth .

Today, I'm honoring the great Maxine Waters of California for #BlackHistoryMonth . For more than 46 years, the godmother of Black politics has served in public office. Her landmark legislation divested the state from South Africa in the 80's. Nobody wields power more fiercely or effectively.
