"Free speech" in Britain apparently means, as the article says, the right to be publicly offensive, distasteful, nasty and cruel. Free speech historically arose from the recognition that everyone should have the right to stand up to the powerful and speak their mind.

Today it means that an evil press that targets individuals can say anything, up to and including their suicide. It doesn't matter if it's true, untrue, made up, hearsay.

I think most people feel when they are attacked with the intention to hurt, upset or destroy. The fact that it seems so difficult for the press to separate this from free speech that stands up to the powerful is most likely due to "hate for profit", oder?
