The Wired article talks about me using my savings to fund Spoutible, and that is true. I wanted to put my money where my mouth is and launch Spoutible without VCs. With the help of the Spoutible community, we made that happen. I also opted not to monetize with ads until the platform was stable.

I purposely avoid VCs because I don't want what happened to Twitter to happen to Spoutible. I want us to stay true to our core mission. But running Spoutible is a costly endeavor. We have all the expenses like any other social media startup, with significantly fewer resources than our competitors.

Hopefully the ads won’t be like adstagram or adbook. Those were fun platforms to be on until every other thing I saw was an ad. #Facebook #instagram

I've worked for both private startups and vc-backed startups, and so happy you chose to do the former. It changes everything. Social media doesn't have to be a cultural disaster!

This spout was removed because the account associated with it was suspended.
