Norfolk Southern:

-Helped kill a safety rule to upgrade outdated braking systems

-Fought off a shareholder initiative to mitigate risks of transporting hazardous materials

-Cut thousands of employees despite the safety risks of understaffing

Atrocious corporate greed.

Railroads have cut crews down considerably over the years. There used to be 2 brakemen, 1 conductor, a fireman and an engineer on crews. It's been cut down to two men and they have been pushing for just an engineer for the past few years.

IMHO they are going to go down to one man on a train and then will start saying that trains are perfectly capable and "safer" being autonomous and do away completely with human intervention.

All in the name of profits.
