Old, outdated battery tech is what has been holding us back. Toyota is claiming to have new battery tech. If their claims hold true, it will end combustion engines.

Huge IF, but fantastic if proven commercially viable. I suspect it also marks Toyota’s shift to an energy brokerage firm. Hmm.

Got the info from Slashdot, and they accidentally linked to this story instead, which talks about the change in strategy from hydrogen to battery electric.

Interesting, energy brokerage...

Yeah. I believe with a company the size and scope of Toyota, it is perfectly positioned to become not just a consumer/facilitator but also a creator in the clean energy market of the future.

As you mentioned, better energy storage will enable us to fully disconnect from fossil fuels.

Automobile manufacturers are ramping up their battery production lines, but what if they also leveraged that manufacturing expertise to broader markets like GM?

That's what Tesla was doing. They have a deal with Australia to make a plant out there. Battery tech and transmission need big improvements. If Toyota has better battery tech, we could start living off solar.
