Isn’t this all kinds of illegal? Don’t HIPPA laws apply here? When my child went to college, the school wouldn’t tell me anything about him.

Ron DeSantis seeks Trans College Students' Medical Information — This is a blatant Human Rights violation. It's also illegal, unethical, and overtly Fascist.

They may be exempt for HIPPA under one or more of these conditions. See Permitted Uses and Disclosures:

It’s time to stop colleges and schools from collecting medical information. While we wait to get something done, I suggest any parents seriously consider not sending your children to colleges in Red states, as a form of monetary protest.

DeSantis does not believe that federal law applies to him. I guess he skipped his Con Law class the day they covered the Supremacy Clause. Pure arrogance.

Someone very helpfully told me earlier that the government can collect information in certain circumstances bypassing HIPPA. Makes sense from a public health standpoint, but this is a bad application of the rules.

Sadly, authoritarians do not recognize established laws.
