I'm reluctant to criticize Merrick Garland, but to be fair, he deserves some criticism here. Trump should've been indicted over a year ago and his stalling tactic would've run its course and he would now be on trial.

I think shows like Law and Order have warped our perceptions on how long this process really takes. It's so much more important that DOJ does it right.

Ironically, it was a Coen Brothers film, The Man Who Wasn't There, that helped me straight on how long a trial takes. Mid-point of the movie, our detached narrator just flat-out says how it's almost never as swift as it is in fiction.
