I am embarrassed to date myself, but Between the World and Me was the first book I had read, as a white person, that truly challenged my perceptions. It was the gateway book to many others that followed. I've recommended it plenty.

Good. For. HIM!
I chose his (BRILLIANT!) memoir as my neighborhood book club selection a couple of yrs ago, & you’d better believe some of those 70YO’s felt uncomfortable. I considered that a success!

I wish more authors would do this. Especially the well known ones. It brings extra publicity (making it more difficult to ban books). And confronts those wanting to ban a book with the humanity of the author. It’s easier to ban an abstract than a living breathing person.

He's a fantastic writer. The most powerful essayist I've ever encountered. His work should be as widely read as possible.

(He's also written fiction, though I'm less familiar with it. He even wrote Black Panther and Captain America stories for Marvel comics.)
