Being poor now just leads to being more poor later.

Being poor is the most expensive thing in the world! Practically everything costs more in "poor neighborhoods."

It is heartbreaking! 😔
Ola @Olatunde
It is very expensive to be poor.

—- Can't pay to clean your teeth?
Next year, pay for a root canal.
— Can't pay for a new mattress?
Next year, pay for back surgery.
— Can't pay to get that lump checked out?
Next year, pay for stage 3 cancer.

Poverty changes interest. Sadly! 😞

Often they don’t have real supermarkets in those areas.

I’ve heard this attributed to Langston Hughes, but I can’t prove it. “Harlem where a nickel costs a dime.”

It was only as a young adult and after some education that I realized I came from a working class family. It is why we (my husband and I) will not have any intergenerational wealth to pas to our kids. We are comfortable now but we live with constant debt and are concerned with how we will retire.

Yes, because it is a system that was created precisely for this purpose and the subtlety of the whole thing is that they have managed to get this mass of poor people to be among other things their greatest supporters, so that there is a war between the poor but never anyone who turns against them

So true, and the converse is also true.
I recently recognized a new aspect to my privilege, that I could afford solar panels to charge an electric car so I'm sheltered from the price of gas at the pump.
Having money allows people to keep money.
We must consciously break this cycle.

This idea is very hard for middle class people to comprehend because of assumptions that rest on a lifetime of privilege. That said, those willing to do the work can escape poverty blindness.
