I had a college professor for “survey of social problems” who started the course by saying, we’re not going to talk about social problems…. This course will help you THINK about social problems.” Out of all the pre-med etc. courses I took, this and “humanism and mysticism” were the most valuable.

Really good. I was an 18 or 19 year old mess at the time and had disdain for the adult world…. He was one of few people I came across that not only saw the BS I saw in the world, but gave us a valid and evidence based way to think about it. I almost blew it off but I liked how this guy didn’t gaf

He said right off the bat “if you want a course that will just hash about social issues rather than learning how to think about them, you should drop this one and sign up for another section- fine with me”. I was too lazy to switch and as you can see, it had an impact at a time when not much did !
