My Flying Car 2020
A
thread 1/14
Some are aware there was an issue this afternoon where one of the Spouters I follow got into it with another Spouter. I'm amplifying this because I have time today. #thread
Pierson Tyler-Leonard @The_Old_Crank
I cannot respond on the thread but I've repeatedly apologized to any who were offended more then she did by sending me private threatening & menacing personal messages.. If I misunderstood her post then I was wrong but she decided to send me threatening messages instead of setting me right ..

Let's start at the start. She took the post down, because by the time this finished, she was frustrated AF. It is respect for her decision to take it down, I will paraphrase: she was pointing out that Spoutible was created by a black man, and she was saying not to forget this is a black owned site.

The Spouter I quoted above responded with offense taken. I'm paraphrasing - she should understand that shunning isn't okay and she shouldn't do it. She took offense to him lecturing her. Then they traded insults.

This Spouter also quoteSpouted her, saying that what she was trying to do wasn't acceptable. When pressed by others (including me), he basically said:

And about the insult trading, he said (and I responded):

By the time these words were exchanged, the collective community had stepped up and supported her point of view about Spoutible being a safe space, and the other poster came to consider that perhaps he misread something.

Separately, I saw posts that she sent out as a call for help, because at first she felt unsupported as this poster kept addressing her with comments that began, "Girl." And where he threatened her, which I and others reported. Y'all, it was ugly.

She didn't know how to block him, but then other Spouters stepped in to help her. She blocked that guy and deleted the tweet, dousing the fire. Things worked as they should have in the end. But with no original thread to respond to, this man reached out to me as shown at the start of this thread.

My thoughts on this: Apologized for what? This literally says IF I misunderstood her. On at least 2 occasions, he said there was no other way to interpret her remarks. Even now he states "if I misunderstood." A qualifier negates an apology, if this was meant to even be an apology.

A sincere and effective apology would acknowledge having 1) misunderstood her post, 2) attempted to shame her, 3) falsely equated her words with racism, which has a definition that doesn't fit her words, 4) threatened her, 5) centered himself, 6) disrespected her 7) rebuffed guidance.

And if we've said it once, we've said it a thousand times, it is not the marginalized person's responsibility to school people who have the privilege and opportunity to educate themselves. What we NOT gone do is accept, "it's your fault you didn't teach me better." We are not the help.

This guy is not wrong because he's white. He's wrong because he was entitled.

IMO he was offended at being told that he couldn't say anything he wanted to anyone without consequence, and had a whole fit just to prove that he could. Before finding out that he could try it, but it wouldn't fly.

I would like to thank all of the people who stood in my sister's corner this afternoon. I would like to thank this other poster for reaching out to me, which gave me the opportunity to share my take on being more humble and open minded.

To my sister, I'm sorry this happened today, but we got you.
