It's my understanding if people read the constitutional conventions and the debates they had at the time, the founders did not want a 2 party monopoly. Even though they can be messy at times, I think multi party parliamentary systems function better.

You are absolutely correct. When I was taught in school said that the founders did not want two parties. They thought that was the worst. They thought that more than two parties would be a healthier democracy. And I agree with you. Multi-party systems function better in my opinion.
