Why is it that Republicans and vile Evangelicals instantly treat any act of kindness or acceptance as a mental defect they're quick to disown?

They're rejecting the core tenets of both American morality and Christian scripture. You'd think at least pastors would notice "Stop feeding the poor!"

Hypothesis: until recently humans has to walk a tight rope btw cooperation (getting resources) and competition (grabbing more of what's available), as long as resources were limited to those sustainable. Modern abundance muted the need for cooperation. They allowed their inner animal to take over.

Pretty to think so. Except it's a political position, not universal.

The GOP gave up charity for Lent. Rich man's party, you know? No surprise.

But Evangelicals? WTF? GOP will cut the safety net. What happened to "Feed the poor," "Heal the sick," "Welcome the stranger," that kind of thing?

The political position comes from something more universal: fear and loathing of complexity and diversity (=democracy) and hierarchical thinking. For the firts see Karen Stenner. For the second, see Teri Kanefield (too much info for a 300-chars spout, sorry). Both based on scientific research.
