"Despite all the rhetoric about "school choice," the long-term plan here is for such schools to completely replace public education."

Which has always been the plan. Have issues with public schools? Then work to improve them. We need to be ALL IN on public schools. Full stop.

“That finding should be obvious and unassailable, yet court watchers are deeply worried that the Supreme Court will take it up soon, and not just because of Justice Samuel Alito's nostalgia for girls in knee socks and plaid skirts.”

The only problem they have with public schools they have is the curriculum. Once they privatize school they control the curriculum and can dumb down their corresponding populations as much as they want it’s the long game.

Not fully opposed to charter schools but in its current state, it’s subject to fraud & kids don’t get protections from being dropped from charters once the checks are cut. You’d need monthly payout system to ensure schools keep the kids they enroll all year which creates budgeting challenges

Let alone the other issues such as pushing students to IEP to get additional funding and general accountability issues some states have had in the past.
