Wow, Twitter is downgrading security for non-blue-checkmarked people by disallowing 2FA. As someone who works in cybersec and follows *waves hand vaguely* stuff... this is a completely irrational move in the Jenga game that the platform has become.

I had some genius on birdsite tell me he’s doing it to flush out the bot accounts. Removing MFA to reduce junk accounts? Hmm, that’s not how things work. At all.

Yes, bots... accounts famous for both 1. authenticating in ways that require human activity and 2. eager to leave more traces of themselves than the minimally required. /s

Baseline security of your userbase is not a premium feature AND compromising security at any point makes the whole system weaker. This means that the service that the blue-checked people are paying for just got a lot worse too.
