When Black and other marginalized people say something is wrong in the US, don't assume we're playing spoiler for the GOP against Dems or have been brainwashed by propaganda. It's possible our lived experience informs conclusions we come to on their own. American experiences vary.

We can't get our needs met without speaking truth to power. We can't wait for other people to notice our problems and volunteer solutions. That doesn't mean we won't vote in our best interests, given available choices. But we cannot be expected to be silent about the things that ail us.

If this leads to us speaking inconvenient truths, we will collectively need to work through the resulting discomfort. Comes with the territory of trying to solve problems in a landscape with systemic inequality based on race. It's not either you're all in on Dem messaging or you're with the GOP.

One day, perhaps, we won't have to deal with truths like, the hood stays the hood, no matter who wins these elections. But until that changes and all marginalized people are safe, hearing and stating inconvenient truths will remain part of the work, on message or not. Election year or not.

And the only people pointing that out the lack of benefit are opportunists like Ice Cube, cynical GOP who only want to peel off Dem voters without serving them, and socialists/progressives who have no realistically viable apparatus to power outside the Dem party but wish they could take it over.

That last group of socialists/progressives are folks I find particularly noxious. Don't get me wrong, I loathe the first two. But man alive are that last one so insincere in their stated aims.

I rock with Democratic socialist thought, but they don't have the juice. Unlike many of them, I'm too practical to be a hold out when the well-being of people less fortunate than me is on the line. That hold out stuff throws gum in the gears of attainable progress.

Scares the isht out of me, too. Bc there is truth to the "propaganda targets Black people" thing, and to complaints Black GOPers have about Dem group think. Those truths don't change my analysis of which evils are lesser, but they jeopardize our ability to collectively vote in our best interests.
